Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers opportunities for chefs and hospitality professionals in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and other resort destinations. Penang is especially attractive for food professionals, combining a strong Chinese culinary heritage with a relaxed island lifestyle, historic George Town, beaches and a lively food scene. Langkawi offers resort-based work, while Sabah and Sarawak provide opportunities in tourism and international hotels. Malaysian culture is diverse, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English commonly used in hotels. Living costs are moderate, although island resorts can be more expensive than mainland cities. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, and the company generally handles the application through Malaysian immigration authorities. Candidates should confirm visa eligibility, accommodation, benefits, working hours and transport arrangements before relocating.
