A professional appearance, attention to detail, customer focus, initiative and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced hotel environment are important.
Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is a leading luxury hospitality group founded in Hong Kong, with hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international markets. The group is known for warm Asian hospitality, high service standards and distinctive properties ranging from city hotels to beach and island resorts. Shangri-La’s Malaysian portfolio includes well-established properties serving leisure travellers, business guests, meetings and events. Employees typically work in a multicultural environment with opportunities to develop across hotel operations, sales, food and beverage, wellness and corporate functions. The company places strong emphasis on guest satisfaction, professional service, teamwork and employee development. A Sales & Marketing Coordinator would generally support the commercial team in building client relationships, promoting the property and coordinating activities that help increase room, event and other hotel revenue.
Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, sales, events, diving and wellness, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak. Langkawi is the main resort island, known for beaches, nature, island-hopping and a relaxed lifestyle; Penang combines heritage, food and a lively urban culture. Malaysian workplaces are multicultural, and courtesy, modest dress, punctuality and respect for Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous traditions are valued. Living costs vary, with island accommodation and transport often higher than on the mainland. English is widely used in tourism, while Malay is the national language. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass arranged before starting work; approval depends on the role, salary and current immigration rules. Candidates should confirm visa eligibility, accommodation, insurance, taxation and relocation support directly with Shangri-La. Domestic flights and ferries connect the major islands, although transport can be limited outside tourist areas.
