Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, event management, tourism, restaurants, retail and business services. Key destinations include Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and the resort islands of Sabah and Terengganu. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in hospitality workplaces. Lifestyle ranges from busy urban living to relaxed beach and island communities; costs are generally moderate, though Kuala Lumpur and popular resorts can be more expensive. Foreign employees normally need an employment pass sponsored by the hiring company, and should not begin work before approval. Employers commonly assist with documentation, accommodation guidance and relocation arrangements. Candidates should confirm salary, service charge, housing, medical coverage, working hours and visa sponsorship directly with the hotel before accepting an offer.
