Hong Kong is a compact international city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, connected by an efficient MTR, bus and ferry network. Hospitality, finance, retail, aviation, logistics, technology and healthcare offer regular employment opportunities, with luxury hotels providing roles for experienced international and local candidates. Cantonese is the main everyday language, while English is widely used in business and tourism; Mandarin is increasingly useful. Life is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, varied food, hiking trails, beaches and a vibrant cultural scene, although housing can be expensive and space limited. Foreign nationals generally need an employment visa sponsored by an approved employer before starting work. The employer normally supports the application, which requires a confirmed role, suitable qualifications or experience and proof that the position meets immigration requirements. Accommodation, transport and relocation costs should be budgeted carefully.
