Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a compact, energetic international destination made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with easy access to outlying islands such as Lantau. Hospitality, retail, finance, aviation, technology and education provide many employment opportunities, especially for people with language skills and customer-service experience. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with global influences; respect, efficiency and professionalism are highly valued. Lifestyle options range from dense urban districts and excellent public transport to beaches, hiking trails, temples and island villages. Foreign employees normally need an approved employment visa sponsored by an employer before starting work; requirements include a valid offer, suitable qualifications or experience and proof that the role cannot readily be filled locally. New arrivals should budget carefully for housing, as rent is high, and arrange a local bank account, medical cover and transport card.
