Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in resort hospitality, especially for lifeguards, recreation attendants, food and beverage staff, housekeepers and guest-service professionals. Popular island and coastal destinations include Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, Redang, Perhentian and Sabah’s resort areas. Life is generally relaxed, warm and social, with beaches, water activities, local markets and diverse Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous cultures. Costs are usually lower than in Singapore or major Western cities, although island accommodation and transport can be more expensive. Malaysia has a tropical climate, so expect heat, humidity and seasonal monsoon rain. Foreign workers normally require an employer-sponsored Employment Pass or relevant work permit; the employer generally handles approval and immigration procedures. Candidates should confirm accommodation, meals, insurance, transport, contract terms and visa sponsorship before relocating. English is widely used in hotels, while Malay is the national language.
