Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, retail, finance, technology, logistics and professional services. The city combines modern skyscrapers and efficient public transport with Cantonese traditions, temples, markets, festivals and a lively international dining scene. Lifestyle is fast-paced and urban, but beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands provide easy escapes. Housing is expensive, so newcomers often compare neighbourhoods according to commute, rent and access to public transport. Overseas employees normally require an appropriate work visa, with the General Employment Policy commonly used for professionals who have a confirmed job, suitable qualifications and an employer sponsor. Employers often assist with applications, although approval is handled by Hong Kong Immigration. Bring certified documents, check healthcare and tax arrangements, and budget carefully for deposits, accommodation and daily expenses before relocating.
