Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong offers strong employment opportunities in hospitality, finance, retail, technology, aviation and professional services. Hotel jobs are concentrated on Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the airport area, with opportunities for career progression in international companies. The culture blends Chinese traditions with global influences; Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in business and hotels. Life is fast-paced, highly connected and convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, hiking and vibrant nightlife. Housing is expensive, especially in central districts, so many workers choose locations near MTR lines or share accommodation. Foreign employees generally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer before starting work. The sponsoring company must demonstrate a genuine role and suitable qualifications. New arrivals should budget for a deposit, transport, medical cover and daily expenses, and confirm accommodation and visa arrangements before relocating.
