Working in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel manufacturing, sourcing, logistics, tourism, information technology, engineering, finance and shared services. The island has a diverse culture shaped by Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim and other communities, with Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic and Christian traditions. Lifestyle varies from busy commercial centres such as Colombo to quieter coastal and hill-country areas. Living costs are generally lower than in many Western countries, although housing and international schooling can be expensive in Colombo. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship and an appropriate employment visa or residence approval; tourist status does not permit paid work. Relocating candidates should confirm requirements with the employer and Sri Lankan immigration authorities, arrange health insurance and prepare documents such as qualifications, passport details and police clearances.
