Working in Indonesia

Indonesia is an archipelago offering hospitality opportunities across Java, Bali, Lombok, Sumatra, and resort islands such as Batam and the Riau Islands. Jakarta, on Java, has the broadest corporate and luxury-hotel market, while Bali offers extensive resort, food and beverage, wellness, and tourism employment. Indonesian workplace culture generally values respect for hierarchy, cooperation, punctuality, and relationship-building. Lifestyle varies from busy urban living in Jakarta to a slower, more tourism-focused pace in Bali or Lombok; costs are usually lower than in major Western cities, though central Jakarta and Bali can be expensive. Foreign workers normally require an employer-sponsored work permit and KITAS, with the company handling much of the process. Do not work on a tourist visa. Candidates should confirm housing, insurance, tax, relocation support, and contract terms before moving.
