Requirements typically include hospitality or bar experience, strong knowledge of beverages and service standards, leadership capability, and excellent communication skills. The successful candidate is expected to supervise shifts, coach team members, maintain guest satisfaction, manage reservations and service flow, monitor stock and cash procedures, and follow health, safety and responsible-service regulations. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays is essential. A positive attitude, professional presentation, commercial awareness and the ability to remain calm during busy periods are also important.
Marriott International is one of the world's largest hospitality companies, operating a broad portfolio of hotels and resorts across luxury, premium and select-service brands. Its portfolio includes W Hotels, a lifestyle brand known for bold design, energetic social spaces and contemporary guest experiences. W Sydney is located in Darling Harbour and combines luxury accommodation with distinctive restaurants, bars, entertainment and event facilities. Marriott places strong emphasis on service excellence, inclusion, professional development and internal career mobility. Employees may receive access to training, hotel discounts, wellbeing programs and opportunities across the company's global network. In this role, the successful candidate would contribute to the atmosphere and service standards of Living Room Bar while supporting the wider hotel's operational and guest-experience goals.
Australia offers hospitality opportunities in major cities, resort areas and regional destinations, particularly in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, the Gold Coast and tropical Queensland. The culture is generally relaxed, multicultural and outdoor-focused, with a strong emphasis on workplace safety, fairness and work-life balance. Sydney provides excellent dining, beaches, public transport and entertainment, though housing and living costs are high. International workers need an appropriate visa, such as a Working Holiday visa, employer-sponsored visa or another work-authorised pathway; conditions and eligibility vary by nationality and occupation. Relocating usually involves arranging accommodation, tax and banking, health insurance, and a tax file number. Australian hospitality work can involve late shifts, weekends and busy seasonal periods, but it offers valuable experience and potential progression within international hotel groups.
