Working in Singapore

Singapore is a compact, highly connected island city with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, catering, tourism, retail and events. Hospitality workers can find roles through hotel career portals, recruitment agencies and local job platforms, although competition is significant and employers usually prioritize relevant experience and service skills. The culture is multicultural, orderly and fast-paced; English is widely used, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. Lifestyle costs are high, especially rent, but public transport is excellent, safe and affordable. New arrivals often share apartments or use co-living accommodation. Foreign workers need employer sponsorship and an approved work pass before starting employment. Depending on salary, qualifications and sector rules, this may be a Work Permit or S Pass; approval is controlled by government quotas and changing requirements. Candidates should verify current Ministry of Manpower rules, contract benefits, accommodation arrangements and medical insurance before relocating.
