Kuala Lumpur is the main business hub, while island destinations provide a more relaxed lifestyle and strong resort employment. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous influences; English is widely used in hotels, although Malay is the national language. Living costs vary, with Kuala Lumpur offering more urban convenience and island locations providing beaches, outdoor activities and slower-paced communities. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, and must not begin work before approval. Applicants should confirm qualifications, contract terms, accommodation, medical requirements and immigration procedures with the employer. Malaysia’s climate is warm and humid year-round, with monsoon conditions varying by coast.
