Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers hospitality, engineering, construction, technology, retail and tourism opportunities, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Johor and Sabah. The country combines Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous cultures, with diverse food, festivals and languages; English is widely used in hotels and business. Kuala Lumpur provides modern city living, public transport, shopping and international communities, while coastal and island destinations offer a slower lifestyle, beaches and outdoor activities. Living costs are generally lower than in many major global cities, although central Kuala Lumpur rents can be higher. Foreign workers normally need an employer-sponsored work permit or Employment Pass, and should not begin work before approval. Applicants should confirm salary, accommodation, healthcare, taxes, contract terms and relocation support with the employer. A passport, certified qualifications and medical or background documents may be required. Malaysia is warm year-round, with humid weather and seasonal monsoon conditions.
