Working in United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the largest hospitality job markets. Opportunities are common in hotels, restaurants, resorts, events, tourism, retail and aviation. The culture combines Emirati traditions and Islamic values with a highly international lifestyle; modest dress, respectful behaviour and awareness of Ramadan customs are important. Dubai offers beaches, shopping, dining, nightlife and desert activities, while living costs can be high, especially for housing. Most overseas employees need an employer-sponsored work visa. The company generally arranges the entry permit, medical examination, Emirates ID and residency processing, subject to current regulations. Before accepting an offer, confirm salary, service charge, accommodation, transport, meals, insurance, leave, airfare and contract terms. Bring authenticated documents and allow time for relocation administration. Public transport is strong in major cities, and English is widely used in workplaces.
