The United Kingdom offers extensive opportunities for registered nurses, particularly in the NHS, private hospitals, care homes and community services. Nursing roles are regulated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council, so overseas applicants usually need approved qualifications, English-language evidence and NMC registration. Eligible international nurses may use the Health and Care Worker visa, which requires an approved employer and certificate of sponsorship. The UK combines historic towns, diverse cities and accessible countryside, with a multicultural workplace culture that values professionalism, punctuality, teamwork and patient dignity. Lifestyle costs vary considerably: London and the southeast are expensive, while many areas of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are more affordable. Employees should budget for housing, transport, utilities and visa-related expenses. Public transport is widely available, and NHS employment commonly includes pension, annual leave and occupational benefits.
