Working in United Kingdom

The United Kingdom offers strong opportunities for registered nurses, particularly in critical care, emergency care, mental health and community services. NHS and private employers recruit internationally, although registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council is essential. The UK has a diverse culture, reliable public services, historic towns and cities, and generally good access to healthcare, education and public transport. Lifestyle costs vary considerably: London and southern England are often more expensive than East Anglia, the Midlands, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Overseas nurses normally need a Skilled Worker visa, an eligible job offer, English-language evidence and NMC registration or an appropriate registration pathway. Applicants should confirm sponsorship, salary thresholds, dependants' rules and visa costs before relocating. Renting accommodation, arranging banking, obtaining a National Insurance number and budgeting for transport are common early priorities.
