Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers varied hospitality, tourism, sales, technology, education, manufacturing, and healthcare opportunities. Major employment centres include Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Bahru, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, and Kuching. Although Malaysia is not one island, its mainland and island destinations provide different lifestyles: cities are modern and multicultural, while places such as Langkawi, Penang, and Sabah offer beaches, nature, and a slower pace. Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Indigenous traditions shape the food, festivals, languages, and daily life. Living costs are generally moderate, though central Kuala Lumpur and popular resort islands can be more expensive. Foreign employees normally need an employment pass sponsored by their employer and should secure approval before working. Relocating requires a valid passport, employment contract, medical checks where required, suitable accommodation, and budgeting for deposits and transport. Johor Bahru is especially convenient for professionals connected with Singapore.
