The Perioperative Assistant supports patients and the operating-theatre team before, during and after surgery. Typical duties include preparing theatres, checking equipment and supplies, assisting with patient transfers, maintaining cleanliness, following infection-prevention procedures, and supporting patient safety and dignity. Applicants should demonstrate compassion, reliability, good communication, attention to detail and the ability to work calmly in a busy clinical environment. The role requires adherence to NHS policies, confidentiality, manual-handling guidance and health-and-safety standards. Previous healthcare or theatre experience may be helpful, but relevant training and a willingness to learn are also important. Candidates should be able to work shifts, including evenings, weekends and on-call periods where required.
North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital and community healthcare services across Cambridgeshire and the surrounding area. Its main hospitals include Peterborough City Hospital, Hinchingbrooke Hospital and Stamford and Rutland Hospital, supported by community services and specialist clinical teams. The Trust delivers emergency, surgical, medical, maternity, outpatient and diagnostic care to a large and diverse local population. As an NHS Foundation Trust, it combines public healthcare responsibilities with a focus on improving quality, patient experience and clinical outcomes. Employees work within multidisciplinary teams and receive access to NHS benefits, occupational pension arrangements, learning opportunities and professional development. The Trust promotes inclusive recruitment and expects staff to uphold patient dignity, safety, confidentiality and its values in every aspect of care.
The United Kingdom offers substantial opportunities in healthcare, technology, engineering, education, finance and hospitality, with the NHS being one of the largest employers. Its culture is generally diverse and multicultural, with strong traditions in public services, sport, music and the arts. Lifestyle varies from busy cities to quieter coastal and rural communities; public transport is useful, although housing and commuting costs can be high in London and the southeast. Citizens of the UK and Ireland have the right to live and work without a visa. Most other nationals need immigration permission, such as a Skilled Worker visa, and healthcare roles may qualify under the Health and Care Worker route if the employer and position meet eligibility rules. Applicants should check sponsorship, registration, salary and English-language requirements before relocating. Plan for accommodation, taxes, National Insurance, healthcare access and school arrangements.
