About the employer

Isle of Wight NHS Trust provides hospital, community, ambulance and mental health services to residents and visitors across the Isle of Wight. Its services include St Mary’s Hospital in Newport, community hospitals, urgent and emergency care, planned treatment, community nursing, ambulance operations and specialist mental health support. As the island’s main NHS provider, the Trust serves a diverse population while also responding to seasonal increases in demand from tourists. Employees work in a close-knit healthcare environment where multidisciplinary collaboration and continuity of care are particularly important. The organisation offers NHS employment benefits, structured professional development and opportunities to build experience across hospital and community settings. Registered nurses may also benefit from the island’s varied clinical caseload and the opportunity to contribute to local services in a distinctive coastal community.

Working in United Kingdom

The Isle of Wight is a small island off England’s south coast, reached by ferry or hovercraft from Portsmouth, Southampton or Lymington. The main employment sectors include healthcare, tourism, hospitality, education, retail, marine industries, construction and public services. Newport is the administrative and healthcare centre, while Ryde, Cowes, Shanklin and Ventnor offer additional employment and housing options. Island life is generally relaxed, community-focused and outdoors-oriented, with beaches, coastal paths, sailing, cycling and festivals forming an important part of local culture. Living costs can vary considerably, and housing availability may be tighter than expected in popular coastal areas. Applicants from overseas need UK work permission; eligible nurses may qualify for Health and Care Worker visa sponsorship, subject to employer approval, NMC registration and English-language requirements. Relocation planning should include ferry travel, accommodation, transport and access to mainland services.
