Requirements typically include a doctorate or equivalent professional qualification in clinical or counselling psychology, or a recognised psychotherapy qualification, professional registration with the HCPC or relevant body, and substantial post-qualification experience. The successful candidate should have expertise in risk assessment, crisis intervention, evidence-based therapies, multidisciplinary working and safeguarding. Experience supporting complex presentations and contributing to service development is highly desirable.
South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK's largest providers of mental health and specialist psychological services. It delivers care across South London, including inpatient, community, crisis, forensic, children's and older people's services. The Trust is also internationally recognised for mental health research, education and professional training through its close links with King's College London and the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience. Its workforce includes clinicians, psychologists, nurses, psychiatrists, therapists, researchers and operational professionals. The organisation promotes recovery-focused, person-centred care and works with service users, carers and local communities to improve mental health outcomes. Employees generally benefit from NHS terms and conditions, pension arrangements, annual leave, learning opportunities and access to specialist clinical development.
The United Kingdom offers strong opportunities in healthcare, technology, finance, education, engineering and public services, with major employment centres in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Cardiff. British culture is diverse and generally values privacy, punctuality, fairness and respectful communication. Lifestyle options range from busy city living to rural communities, with extensive public transport, historic attractions, parks and coastline. Living costs are highest in London and the southeast, while many northern and regional locations are more affordable. Overseas professionals usually need the appropriate visa, such as the Health and Care Worker visa for eligible NHS roles or a Skilled Worker visa for other sponsored employment. Check registration requirements, sponsorship eligibility and current immigration rules before relocating. Renting, healthcare access, banking and tax registration should be arranged early, and applicants should budget for deposits and initial living expenses.
