Qatar is a compact peninsula rather than an island, offering strong employment opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, aviation, retail, construction, healthcare, finance and events. Doha is the main commercial centre and has a modern, international lifestyle with shopping malls, beaches, museums, desert excursions and a growing dining scene. Local culture is shaped by Islamic traditions, hospitality and respect for family, modest dress and religious customs; alcohol is restricted to licensed venues. Most expatriates enter on an employer-sponsored work visa. The employer usually arranges residence permits, medical checks and related documentation, while requirements can include passport records, attested qualifications and a contract. Relocation packages may include accommodation, transport, health insurance, flights and annual leave benefits, depending on the employer. Summers are extremely hot, so air-conditioned indoor facilities dominate daily life. Employees should review contract terms, probation, working hours, benefits and visa sponsorship carefully before relocating.
