The role requires a current UK NMC registration as an Adult Nurse, or eligibility to register, along with sound clinical knowledge, effective communication skills and the ability to work safely within NHS policies. The successful candidate will assess, plan, deliver and evaluate high-quality nursing care, maintain accurate records, administer medicines safely and work collaboratively with patients, relatives and the multidisciplinary team. Candidates are expected to demonstrate compassion, professionalism, reliability and a commitment to equality, safeguarding, infection prevention and continuous learning. The ability to prioritise workload, respond appropriately to changing clinical needs and work shifts, including nights, weekends and bank holidays, is essential. Newly qualified nurses and experienced applicants may be considered, subject to the Trust's requirements.
Isle of Wight NHS Trust provides hospital, community, mental health and ambulance services to residents and visitors across the Isle of Wight. Its main acute facility is St Mary's Hospital in Newport, supported by community hospitals, clinics and healthcare teams throughout the island. As an NHS organisation, the Trust delivers publicly funded care and works with local authorities, primary care providers and other partners to improve population health. Staff support patients across a broad range of services, often serving communities where continuity, teamwork and flexibility are particularly important. The Trust offers NHS employment benefits, including occupational pension access, annual leave, staff wellbeing support and professional development opportunities, subject to eligibility. Working for the Trust can provide varied clinical experience in a distinctive island setting, with opportunities to contribute to both acute and community-focused care.
The Isle of Wight is a scenic island off England's south coast, known for beaches, coastal walks, sailing, music festivals and a relaxed community atmosphere. Employment opportunities are concentrated in healthcare, social care, education, tourism, hospitality, retail, construction and public services. Newport is the main administrative and employment centre, while towns such as Ryde, Cowes, Shanklin and Sandown offer additional services and seasonal work. Lifestyle is generally quieter than on the mainland, although ferry travel is needed for many specialist services and commuting. Housing and transport costs vary, with limited availability in popular coastal areas. UK and Irish citizens can work without a visa. Other nationals generally need a suitable UK work visa, such as a Skilled Worker visa, with an eligible sponsored role and employer. International nurses usually need NMC registration, English-language evidence and completion of required UK registration steps before practising.
