Working in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka offers hospitality opportunities in Colombo, resort areas such as Galle, Bentota and the southern coast, and cultural destinations including Kandy and the Cultural Triangle. Hotels commonly recruit chefs, restaurant professionals, front-office staff, housekeeping teams, engineers and managers, with stronger opportunities for candidates holding recognized qualifications and international experience. Sri Lankan culture is friendly and diverse, combining Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim and colonial influences. Colombo provides a busy urban lifestyle, while coastal and hill-country locations offer a slower pace and lower living costs. English is widely used in tourism, although learning basic Sinhala or Tamil is helpful. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work or residence authorization; tourists must not work on a visitor visa. Confirm current requirements with the Sri Lankan embassy and employer. Discuss accommodation, meals, transport, insurance, taxes and relocation support before accepting an offer.
