About the employer

The Westin Nirup Island Resort & Spa is a luxury island resort associated with Marriott International’s Westin brand, located on Nirup Island in the Riau Islands near Batam, Indonesia. Westin hotels focus on wellness, restorative travel and premium guest experiences through features such as comfortable accommodation, quality dining, spa services, fitness facilities and nature-based activities. The resort serves leisure travellers, couples, families, groups and corporate guests seeking a secluded destination close to Singapore and mainland Batam. As part of Marriott’s global hospitality network, the property is expected to follow structured service standards, employee training practices and operational procedures. Working there may offer exposure to international guests, resort restaurant management and the wider Marriott career system. Specific benefits, accommodation arrangements and employment terms depend on the vacancy and the final employment contract.

Working in Indonesia

Nirup Island is a small resort island in Indonesia’s Riau Islands province, close to Batam and within easy reach of Singapore by boat connections arranged through the resort or local operators. Employment is concentrated in hospitality, restaurants, housekeeping, spa services, maintenance, marine activities, guest relations and administration. Life is quieter and more community-oriented than in a major city, with tropical weather, beaches and limited shopping or entertainment on the island; Batam provides broader services and transport links. Indonesian culture values respect, hospitality, modesty and good relationships, while Malay and Indonesian influences are prominent. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and KITAS; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Confirm current immigration rules, medical checks, accommodation, transport and tax arrangements with the employer before relocating. Candidates should budget for humid weather, boat schedules and the practical realities of island living.
