Working in Qatar

Qatar is a peninsula rather than an island, with Doha as its main employment and lifestyle centre. Hospitality opportunities are common in luxury hotels, resorts, restaurants, catering companies, spas and event venues, particularly for housekeeping, food service, engineering and guest-relations roles. The culture blends Islamic traditions with a highly international expatriate community; modest dress, respectful behaviour and awareness of prayer times are important. Lifestyle options include beaches, malls, museums, desert excursions and a growing dining and entertainment scene. Summers are extremely hot, while winters are generally pleasant. Employees normally need an employer-sponsored work visa and residence permit; the hiring company usually manages medical checks, documentation and sponsorship. Confirm contract terms for accommodation, transport, meals, insurance, leave and airfare before relocating. Qatar has no personal income tax on most employment earnings, but living costs can be high, especially for private housing.
