Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers opportunities in hospitality, finance, technology, shared services, education, healthcare, and manufacturing, especially around Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Penang, Johor Bahru, and resort islands such as Langkawi. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Indigenous influences; English is widely used in business, while Malay is the national language. Lifestyle costs are moderate, with Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya being more expensive than smaller towns. Public transport, shopping, diverse food, and tropical weather are major attractions. Foreign interns and employees must obtain the correct immigration permission before starting work. Students should confirm whether their university and host company can arrange an internship pass, student pass endorsement, or other required approval. Employer-sponsored employment visas may apply to longer-term roles. Research housing, insurance, healthcare, transport, and local regulations before relocating.
