About the employer

Mulu Marriott Resort & Spa is a luxury rainforest resort in Sarawak, Malaysia, operated under the Marriott International brand. Located near Gunung Mulu National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the resort welcomes leisure travelers, adventure tourists, and guests visiting the area’s caves, rivers, and rich wildlife. Its operations typically include accommodation, restaurants and bars, spa services, guest activities, events, and supporting hospitality departments. Marriott International is one of the world’s largest hotel companies, with a broad portfolio of well-known brands and established training, service, and career-development programs. Working at the Mulu property offers experience in an international resort environment, although employees should be prepared for a remote location, limited shopping and entertainment, and close interaction with nature and local communities.

Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers hospitality, tourism, food service, retail, healthcare, technology, manufacturing, and construction opportunities, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah, and Sarawak. Mulu is in Malaysian Borneo rather than on a typical resort island, and life there is peaceful, nature-focused, and relatively remote. Local culture combines Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Indigenous traditions, with strong community values and diverse food. Employees can enjoy trekking, caves, rivers, wildlife, and a slower lifestyle, but should expect limited transport, shopping, and medical facilities. Foreign workers generally need an employer-sponsored work permit and must meet Malaysian immigration requirements before starting employment. Employers may assist with permits, flights, accommodation, and relocation, but these benefits should be confirmed in writing. Bring suitable outdoor clothing, personal essentials, and a willingness to adapt to tropical weather and remote-resort living.
