Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers career opportunities in logistics, finance shared services, technology, manufacturing, healthcare, tourism, and e-commerce. Kuala Lumpur and Selangor provide the widest range of professional roles, while Penang is strong in electronics and manufacturing, Johor in logistics and industry, and Sabah and Sarawak in tourism, energy, and natural-resource sectors. The country has a multicultural society shaped by Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous traditions, with Malay as the official language and English widely used in business. Urban life is convenient and relatively affordable, with excellent food, shopping, public transport, and access to beaches and rainforests. Foreign professionals normally need employer-sponsored authorization, such as an Employment Pass, before starting work; requirements depend on salary, role, qualifications, and current immigration rules. Relocating usually involves securing an offer, arranging the pass, housing, banking, healthcare, and local registration. Major cities are generally welcoming to international workers.
