The CIO Advisory – Executive Partner FSI role supports senior technology leaders across Australia’s financial services industry. Requirements typically include substantial CIO, CTO, technology strategy, or executive consulting experience; strong knowledge of banking, insurance, risk, regulation, and digital transformation; and excellent communication and relationship-management skills. The successful candidate is expected to advise C-suite clients, provide practical and commercially relevant guidance, lead executive conversations, develop trusted relationships, contribute to research and advisory programs, and represent Gartner’s thought leadership. Candidates should be confident working independently, influencing senior stakeholders, managing multiple priorities, and translating complex technology issues into clear business outcomes. Relevant tertiary qualifications and experience in financial services or a major advisory firm are advantageous.
Gartner is a global research and advisory company that helps business and technology leaders make informed decisions. It provides research, expert analysis, consulting, executive programs, benchmarking, events and peer networking across areas including IT, cybersecurity, cloud, data, digital transformation and business strategy. Gartner serves organisations ranging from large multinational corporations and government bodies to growing enterprises. Its analysts and advisors work closely with senior executives, including CIOs and other technology leaders, offering independent insight into market trends, vendors, operating models and strategic priorities. The company operates internationally and is known for its Magic Quadrant research, industry conferences and executive advisory services. In this position, the employee would help financial-services executives apply Gartner’s research and expertise to technology strategy, innovation, risk management and business transformation.
Australia offers strong opportunities for experienced technology, consulting, cybersecurity, cloud, data and financial-services professionals, especially in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Canberra. Workplace culture is generally collaborative, direct and relatively informal, while leadership roles value autonomy, commercial awareness and clear communication. Lifestyle varies from major-city dining and cultural events to beaches, national parks and outdoor activities. Housing and living costs are highest in Sydney and Melbourne, although other cities may offer a more affordable balance. Skilled professionals commonly explore employer-sponsored visas such as the Temporary Skill Shortage visa or permanent skilled pathways, subject to occupation, salary, skills and eligibility requirements. Partners may usually obtain work rights depending on the visa. Before relocating, candidates should check official Australian immigration guidance, tax obligations, healthcare arrangements and professional recognition requirements. Australia is geographically remote, so international travel can be lengthy, but domestic transport links major cities effectively.
