Ireland offers strong opportunities in banking, asset servicing, funds, fintech, technology, pharmaceuticals, accounting and professional services, particularly in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Limerick. The country has a friendly, social culture, English as the main working language, and an active music, sports and pub tradition. Dublin provides the largest job market but has high rents and competitive housing; Cork and Galway can offer a quieter lifestyle, though opportunities may be more limited. Public transport is improving, while cars are often useful outside major cities. EU, EEA and Swiss citizens can work without an employment permit. Non-EEA applicants generally need an employment permit, such as a Critical Skills or General Employment Permit, before working. Employers may support applications for eligible roles, but requirements depend on salary, occupation and qualifications. Check current rules with Ireland’s Department of Enterprise and Immigration Service before relocating.
