Working in Ireland

Ireland offers strong opportunities in technology, banking, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, finance, cybersecurity and multinational business services. Dublin is the main employment hub, while Cork, Galway and Limerick also have growing technology and engineering markets. Irish culture is generally friendly, social and conversational, with a strong tradition of music, sport and community life. The lifestyle combines lively cities with accessible beaches, countryside and historic towns, although housing and rental costs, especially in Dublin, can be high. EU, EEA and Swiss citizens can work without an employment visa. Non-EEA professionals usually need an employment permit, with highly skilled technology roles potentially qualifying for a Critical Skills Employment Permit. Relocating workers should arrange accommodation early, budget for deposits and utilities, and check tax, healthcare and pension arrangements. Public transport is improving, but a car may be useful outside major urban areas.
