The Driver’s Assistant supports the delivery driver with loading, unloading and transporting parcels safely and efficiently. Duties may include checking shipment details, helping plan delivery sequences, handling goods, obtaining delivery confirmations, maintaining professional customer service and following DHL’s safety and security procedures. Candidates should be physically fit, reliable, punctual and comfortable working outdoors and lifting packages. Good communication, teamwork and a customer-focused attitude are expected. Previous experience in delivery, logistics or warehouse work can be useful, although practical ability and a willingness to learn may be more important. A valid driving licence may be advantageous but is not always essential, depending on the position. Flexibility for early starts, variable schedules and busy periods is normally required.
DHL is a global logistics and delivery company operating across more than 220 countries and territories. It provides express parcel delivery, freight transportation, supply-chain management, warehousing, e-commerce logistics and specialist business services. DHL is part of DHL Group, headquartered in Germany, and serves both individual customers and large international businesses. In the United Kingdom, its operations include parcel collection and delivery, distribution centres, road transport and international shipping services. The company is recognised for its extensive delivery network, operational scale and focus on reliability, security and customer service. Employees commonly work in fast-moving environments where teamwork, safety, time management and accurate handling of shipments are important. Depending on the role, DHL may offer structured training, progression opportunities, employee benefits and shift-based working arrangements.
The United Kingdom offers varied employment opportunities in logistics, transport, warehousing, healthcare, technology, finance, construction and hospitality. Its culture is diverse and generally values punctuality, personal responsibility, politeness and clear communication. Major cities provide extensive public transport, while smaller towns may require a car. Living costs are highest in London and the southeast, with more affordable options often available in northern England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Workers should budget for rent, council tax, utilities and transport. Visa requirements depend on nationality and role: eligible overseas applicants usually need employer sponsorship under a relevant work route, while visitors cannot normally work. EU, EEA and Swiss citizens may also need permission unless protected by residence rights. Candidates should verify salary thresholds, sponsorship availability and immigration rules through GOV.UK before relocating.
