Working in Indonesia

Indonesia is an archipelago with varied opportunities across Java, Bali, Sumatra, Sulawesi, and other islands. Jakarta, on Java, offers the widest range of hotel, restaurant, retail, office, and service jobs, although living costs and traffic are high. Bali provides strong tourism employment but seasonal work and housing competition can be challenging. Indonesian culture values hospitality, respect for elders, community, and religious diversity; modest dress and sensitivity during religious occasions are appreciated. Lifestyle ranges from busy urban living to relaxed coastal communities, with excellent food and outdoor activities. Foreign workers generally need an employer-sponsored work authorization and appropriate visa before starting employment; tourist visas do not permit work. Applicants should confirm salary, accommodation, insurance, taxes, and relocation support directly with the employer.
