Working in New Zealand

New Zealand consists mainly of the North and South Islands, with Auckland on the North Island and serving as the country’s largest employment hub. Hospitality jobs are common in hotels, restaurants, resorts and tourism businesses, especially in Auckland, Queenstown, Rotorua, Wellington and Christchurch. New Zealand workplace culture is generally friendly, practical, inclusive and relatively informal, while punctuality, safety and respectful teamwork are valued. The lifestyle offers beaches, hiking, outdoor sports and a good work-life balance, although accommodation and transport can be expensive in major cities. Most overseas workers need an appropriate visa, such as a Working Holiday Visa, Accredited Employer Work Visa or another employer-supported permit. Check Immigration New Zealand for current eligibility, salary thresholds and conditions. Before relocating, budget for housing, transport, healthcare, flights and an initial settlement period.
