Working in Indonesia

Indonesia offers opportunities across Bali, Java, Lombok and other tourism islands, especially in hotels, resorts, events, food and beverage, sales and guest services. Bali is the most internationally oriented and popular with expatriates, while Jakarta and other Java cities provide stronger corporate and MICE markets. Indonesian culture values courtesy, community, religious diversity and respectful communication; learning basic Bahasa Indonesia is highly beneficial. Lifestyle ranges from busy urban living to relaxed coastal communities, with generally warm weather and varied living costs. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and appropriate limited-stay visa, arranged before commencing employment; requirements can change, so official immigration guidance is essential. Relocation planning should cover housing, health insurance, tax, transport and local registration. Employers may assist with permits, accommodation or flights, but packages differ and should be confirmed in writing.
