Working in Malaysia

Malaysia is not one island but a country with diverse mainland and island destinations, including Langkawi, Penang, Sabah’s islands and parts of Borneo. Hospitality, food and beverage, tourism, events and sales roles are common in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and resort areas. Life combines modern cities, tropical weather, excellent food and a multicultural society influenced by Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions. The lifestyle can be relaxed near the coast, while major cities offer stronger transport, shopping and professional networks. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored work permit, commonly arranged through the Employment Pass process; approval depends on qualifications, salary and immigration rules. Check current requirements with the employer and Malaysian authorities before relocating. Consider accommodation, healthcare, local transport, insurance and tax registration. English is widely used in hotels, although Malay and other languages are valuable for local customer relationships.
