About the employer

Shangri-La is a leading luxury hospitality group founded in Asia and known for its hotels, resorts and residences across the world. The company operates properties in major cities and leisure destinations, offering accommodation, restaurants, meetings, wellness services and personalized guest experiences. Shangri-La places strong emphasis on warm Asian hospitality, service excellence, operational quality and employee development. Its Indonesian properties serve both international and domestic travelers and typically combine local culture with international hotel standards. Employees may work in diverse, multicultural teams and benefit from exposure to luxury hospitality practices, structured training and career opportunities within the wider group. Specific compensation, benefits and responsibilities vary by property, position and employment contract.

Working in Indonesia

Indonesia offers opportunities in luxury hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, aviation and hospitality management, particularly in Bali, Jakarta, Batam, Lombok and other major destinations. Bali is popular with expatriates for its international community, beaches and creative lifestyle, while Jakarta provides broader corporate and culinary opportunities but has heavier traffic and a faster pace. Indonesian culture values respect, community, hospitality and religious diversity; learning basic Bahasa Indonesia is highly useful. Living costs vary considerably, with Bali resort areas often more expensive than smaller cities. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship, an approved work permit and the appropriate limited-stay visa before starting work; requirements can change, so official immigration guidance is essential. Employers may provide accommodation, meals, insurance, flights or relocation assistance, especially for senior resort roles. Expect a tropical climate, seasonal tourism fluctuations and a strong emphasis on adapting respectfully to local customs.
