Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in legal services, hospitality, finance, technology, trade and regional headquarters roles. Its business culture is fast-paced, international and relationship-oriented, combining Cantonese traditions with global professional standards. Life is convenient but expensive, especially housing; public transport is excellent, and residents can enjoy beaches, hiking trails, islands, restaurants and vibrant arts and nightlife. Professionals commonly live on Hong Kong Island, Kowloon or the New Territories, with commuting by MTR, buses and ferries. Foreign employees generally need an employment visa sponsored by the hiring company, usually under the General Employment Policy, and must demonstrate suitable qualifications, experience and a confirmed job offer. Dependants may normally apply for dependent visas. Relocating candidates should budget for rent, healthcare, schooling if relevant, and initial deposits. Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is commonly used in business and legal workplaces.
