Working in Indonesia

Indonesia offers hospitality, finance, tourism, culinary, wellness, and management opportunities, particularly in Bali, Jakarta, Batam, Lombok, and major resort destinations. Bali is popular with expatriates for its beaches, international community, wellness culture, and relaxed lifestyle, although traffic, seasonal demand, and housing costs can be challenging. Jakarta provides more corporate opportunities and urban conveniences, while Lombok and other islands offer a quieter resort setting. Indonesian culture values courtesy, community, family, and respect for local customs; modest dress and appropriate workplace etiquette are important. Foreign employees generally need employer sponsorship and the correct work and stay permits before starting employment. Candidates should confirm visa arrangements, tax obligations, medical insurance, accommodation, transport, and relocation support directly with Shangri-La. Learning basic Bahasa Indonesia is highly useful for daily life and workplace integration.
