Shangri-La is seeking a Restaurant Manager to lead the operation of a Japanese restaurant in Indonesia. Candidates should have several years of experience in upscale dining, preferably with Japanese cuisine, strong knowledge of restaurant service standards, food safety and beverage operations. Fluency in English is generally expected; knowledge of Japanese or Indonesian is advantageous. The role requires leadership, staff scheduling and training, inventory and cost control, guest recovery, and coordination with the kitchen and other hotel departments. The successful candidate should be service-focused, commercially aware, culturally sensitive, well organised and comfortable working flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays. Experience with luxury hotels or internationally recognised restaurants will be an advantage.

About the employer

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is a major luxury hospitality group founded in Hong6 Kong, operating hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and other international markets. The group is recognised for warm Asian hospitality, personalised guest service and high standards in accommodation, dining, wellness and events. Shangri-La properties typically offer extensive training, structured career development and opportunities to work with multicultural teams. In Indonesia, the company has operated luxury hotels and resorts serving business travellers, families, leisure guests and corporate events. Employees may receive benefits such as service charge, meals, uniforms, insurance and staff accommodation or relocation support, depending on the property and contract. A Restaurant Manager joining Shangri-La would be expected to protect the brand's service standards while adapting the dining experience to local guest preferences and the restaurant's Japanese concept.

Working in Indonesia

Indonesia is an archipelago with varied opportunities in luxury hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, technology and education. Major hospitality employers are found in Bali, Jakarta, Batam, Lombok and other resort destinations. Bali offers an international lifestyle, beaches, outdoor activities and a large expatriate community, although traffic, seasonal demand and housing costs can be challenging. Indonesian culture places strong value on courtesy, community, family and religious diversity; local customs should be respected, particularly during ceremonies and Ramadan. Salaries may be supplemented by service charge, meals, accommodation or transport, depending on the employer. Foreign employees normally require employer sponsorship, an appropriate work permit and a limited-stay KITAS; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Candidates should confirm visa responsibility, housing, insurance, tax, contract terms and repatriation provisions before relocating. English is common in international hotels, while Indonesian is valuable for daily life.
