The Learning & Development Manager is responsible for planning and delivering training programmes that improve employee performance, service standards and career development. Requirements typically include a degree or diploma in human resources, hospitality, education or a related field, together with several years of training or hotel experience. The successful candidate should have strong presentation, coaching and communication skills, a good understanding of adult learning methods, and the ability to assess training needs and measure results. Experience with Shangri-La or other luxury hospitality operations is advantageous. The role also requires professionalism, cultural awareness, sound organisation and the confidence to work with employees and managers at all levels.
Shangri-La is a leading luxury hospitality group founded in Hong Kong, operating hotels, resorts and related businesses across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international markets. The group is known for warm Asian hospitality, high service standards and its distinctive Shangri-La brand, alongside properties under brands such as Shangri-La, Kerry Hotels, JEN and Traders. Its Malaysian portfolio includes hotels and resorts in major destinations such as Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kota Kinabalu and Putrajaya. Employees generally work in multicultural teams and receive exposure to international hospitality practices, guest service, leadership development and internal career opportunities. A Learning & Development Manager supports the company’s service culture by strengthening employee capabilities, onboarding, compliance training, management development and succession planning.
Malaysia offers varied hospitality opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, Johor and other resort destinations. Jobs are available in hotels, restaurants, events, tourism, wellness and corporate training, with English widely used in international properties. Malaysian culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, reflected in its food, festivals and welcoming social life. Lifestyle costs are moderate compared with many global cities, although Kuala Lumpur and popular islands can be more expensive. Langkawi and parts of Sabah offer a relaxed island or coastal lifestyle, while cities provide better transport and career networking. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored employment pass, and approval depends on the role, salary and immigration requirements. Candidates should confirm visa arrangements, accommodation, taxes, healthcare and relocation support directly with Shangri-La before accepting an offer.
