The company is known for personalized service, refined accommodation, destination dining and a strong emphasis on genuine hospitality. Its properties commonly provide restaurants, bars, meeting facilities, spas and leisure services for business and leisure travelers. Shangri-La places importance on employee development, cultural awareness, operational excellence and creating memorable guest experiences. In Indonesia, the group has operated high-end hospitality properties serving both international visitors and domestic travelers. Benefits and working conditions vary by property, but hotel employees may receive service charge, meals, uniforms, insurance, leave allowances, training and opportunities for internal or international career progression.

Working in Indonesia

Indonesia offers varied hospitality opportunities across Bali, Java, Lombok, Batam and other islands, particularly in luxury hotels, resorts, restaurants, events and tourism services. Bali has the largest international tourism market and a relaxed, multicultural lifestyle, while Jakarta and Surabaya provide stronger corporate and urban career opportunities. Local culture values respect, community, religious diversity and polite communication; Bahasa Indonesia is useful in everyday life, although English is common in international hotels. Living costs vary considerably, with Bali and Jakarta generally more expensive than smaller cities. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship and an appropriate work permit and KITAS before beginning employment. Employers usually manage much of the application process. Candidates should confirm accommodation, transport, medical cover, service charge and relocation support before accepting an offer.
