The role typically requires a recognised law degree, admission as a solicitor or barrister in Hong Kong or another major jurisdiction, and substantial experience in a leading law firm or in-house legal department. Strong knowledge of commercial, corporate, property, hospitality and data-protection matters is valuable. The successful candidate should demonstrate sound judgement, excellent drafting and negotiation skills, commercial awareness, discretion and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders across countries. Fluency in English is essential; Cantonese or Mandarin and regional legal experience would be advantageous.

About the employer

Shangri-La Group is a Hong Kong-based luxury hospitality company operating hotels, resorts and related properties across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international markets. Its portfolio includes the Shangri-La, Kerry, JEN and Traders brands, serving business and leisure travellers through premium accommodation, dining, wellness and event services. The group is known for Asian-inspired hospitality, personalised service and strong attention to guest experience. Corporate employees support a geographically diverse business involving hotel management, property development, commercial partnerships, procurement, technology and regulatory compliance. Working for Shangri-La can provide exposure to cross-border transactions and the operational, property and brand issues of a major international hotel organisation.

Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in legal, finance, hospitality, property, technology, trade and professional services, with many regional headquarters based in the city. Its culture blends Cantonese traditions, international business practices, festivals, excellent food and a fast-paced urban lifestyle. Living costs, especially housing, are high, but public transport is efficient and salaries can be competitive. The city includes Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands nearby. Foreign professionals generally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer; the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates and Quality Migrant Admission Scheme may offer other routes in qualifying cases. Employers commonly assist with visa applications, relocation, medical cover and temporary accommodation. Candidates should confirm tax, housing, schooling and dependent-visa arrangements before moving.
