The Assistant Chief Steward supports the Chief Steward in managing daily stewarding operations, including kitchen cleaning, dishwashing, equipment sanitation, waste handling and hygiene standards. The role typically requires hotel or restaurant stewarding experience, supervisory ability and a good understanding of food-safety and workplace-health requirements. The successful candidate should be organised, physically fit, dependable and comfortable working shifts, weekends and public holidays. They will supervise and train stewarding colleagues, coordinate with chefs and other departments, monitor supplies and ensure that kitchens, back-of-house areas and equipment meet Shangri-La’s cleanliness and safety standards. Good communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to remain calm in a busy luxury-hotel environment are expected.
Shangri-La Group is a leading luxury hospitality company headquartered in Hong Kong, operating hotels, resorts and related businesses across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and other international markets. Its portfolio includes the Shangri-La, Kerry, JEN and Traders brands. Shangri-La is known for personalised service, refined facilities and a strong emphasis on genuine Asian hospitality. In Hong Kong, the group operates prestigious hotels serving business travellers, leisure guests, events and luxury dining customers. Employees generally work in structured, multicultural teams and are expected to maintain high standards of guest service, safety, cleanliness and professionalism. The company offers career opportunities across hotel operations, food and beverage, culinary services, engineering, sales and corporate functions. Benefits and development opportunities vary by property, department and employment contract.
Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in luxury hotels, restaurants, catering, events, tourism and international business. The city is fast-paced, highly connected and culturally diverse, combining Cantonese traditions with global influences. Daily life is convenient, with excellent public transport, extensive shopping, varied dining and easy access to beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands. Housing can be expensive, particularly near central districts, so many employees choose areas such as Kowloon, the New Territories or Hong Kong Island’s outer districts. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored employment visa before starting work; applicants normally provide qualifications, experience and a valid passport, while the employer demonstrates a genuine position and suitable salary. Dependants may qualify for dependent visas. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, a Hong Kong identity card and local banking after approval. Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in hotels and business settings.
