Hong Kong offers many opportunities in hotels, restaurants, retail, finance, technology, logistics and professional services. Hospitality jobs are concentrated in Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, Lantau and the New Territories, with strong demand during busy travel and events seasons. The culture is fast-paced and international, combining Cantonese traditions with global influences; Cantonese is widely spoken, while English and Mandarin are useful at work. Life is convenient, energetic and generally safe, with excellent public transport, compact urban districts, hiking trails, beaches and diverse food. Housing can be expensive, so applicants should compare salary with rent and commuting costs. Foreign workers normally need an approved employment visa before starting work, usually sponsored by the employer, and must meet qualification and salary requirements. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, identification documents, banking and medical coverage. Conditions and visa rules should be confirmed with Hong Kong Immigration.
