A Commis I role can provide practical experience in a professional brigade and opportunities to progress to Demi Chef, Chef de Partie and more senior culinary positions.
Hong Kong is a compact, energetic city and coastal territory with excellent transport, dense urban districts and easy access to beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands. Hospitality offers opportunities in luxury hotels, restaurants, clubs, catering companies and international food businesses, although competition is strong and working hours can be demanding. The culture combines Cantonese traditions, international influences, festivals, excellent food and a fast-paced professional lifestyle. Rent is high, so many workers share accommodation or live in areas outside the main business districts; public transport is reliable and affordable. Non-local workers generally need an employment visa sponsored by the employer before starting work. Applicants normally provide a passport, qualifications, employment records and proof of a genuine job offer. The employer usually handles the application, while approval depends on immigration requirements. Before relocating, confirm salary, service charge, accommodation, meals, insurance, working hours and contract terms.
