Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a fast-paced international city with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, finance, technology, retail and digital marketing. Although best known for its urban centre, it also includes islands such as Hong Kong Island, Lantau and Lamma, as well as extensive countryside and beaches. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with global influences; English is widely used in business, while Cantonese and Mandarin are valuable locally. Life is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse dining, shopping and entertainment, though housing can be expensive. Eligible overseas professionals generally need an employment visa sponsored by a Hong Kong company, commonly through the General Employment Policy, with approval based on qualifications, experience and a confirmed job offer. Employers may assist with visa paperwork, relocation and accommodation guidance. New arrivals should budget carefully for rent, healthcare, transport and initial living costs.
