Working in Malaysia

Penang is Malaysia’s best-known island destination for combining career opportunities with a relaxed lifestyle. Hospitality, tourism, sales, food and beverage, healthcare, education and technology provide regular employment, especially around George Town and Batu Feringgi. The island’s culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian and colonial influences, reflected in its temples, festivals, architecture and famous street food. Life is generally affordable compared with Kuala Lumpur, although accommodation near the beach and central George Town costs more. Residents enjoy beaches, heritage streets, cafés, markets and nearby hiking areas. Langkawi offers a quieter resort-focused alternative with opportunities in hotels, marine tourism and retail. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with the company handling approval and immigration procedures; dependants may require separate passes. Candidates should secure a written offer, confirm accommodation and benefits, and check current Malaysian visa rules before relocating.
