The Senior Corporate Counsel will provide legal advice to Shangri-La Group companies, with a primary focus on disputes, litigation, investigations, employment matters, contracts and risk management. The role typically requires a Hong Kong-qualified solicitor or barrister, or an equivalent common-law qualification, with substantial experience in commercial disputes gained in private practice or an in-house legal team. The successful candidate is expected to work independently, protect the company’s interests, explain complex legal issues clearly to senior stakeholders and handle sensitive matters with discretion.

About the employer

Shangri-La Group is a luxury hospitality company headquartered in Hong Kong and recognised for its hotels, resorts and serviced residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international markets. The group operates under brands including Shangri-La, Shangri-La Resorts, Kerry Hotels, JEN by Shangri-La and Traders Hotels. Its properties are known for high service standards, distinctive Asian hospitality and extensive facilities for business and leisure travellers. The organisation employs colleagues across hotel operations, corporate functions, property development and asset management. A corporate counsel in Hong Kong would support the group’s regional and global business activities, working with senior management, operating companies and external advisers. The position offers exposure to complex cross-border disputes and commercial issues within a large, internationally recognised hospitality group.

Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hospitality, finance, technology, professional services and regional corporate headquarters, with legal roles concentrated in Central, Admiralty and Quarry Bay. The culture is fast-paced, international and highly connected, blending Cantonese traditions with global influences. English is widely used in business, while Cantonese and Mandarin are valuable additional languages. Lifestyle options range from excellent restaurants, shopping and nightlife to hiking, beaches and nearby islands. Housing is expensive, so many professionals choose serviced apartments or flats in areas such as Mid-Levels, Kowloon, Sai Ying Pun or the New Territories. Overseas professionals generally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer; applications require a valid offer and proof of qualifications and experience. Dependants may normally apply for dependant visas. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, health coverage, banking and an identity card after arrival.
